HISTORY OF FSM

About Dr. Carolyn McMakin, MA, DC

Dr. Carolyn McMakin is the developer of Frequency Specific Microcurrent and the founder and lead instructor of Frequency Specific Seminars. She holds a master’s degree in counseling and is a Doctor of Chiropractic in the state of Oregon. She developed FSM in 1997 and began teaching it in 1998 to ensure its effects were reproducible beyond her own practice; she has since trained thousands of practitioners worldwide. Dr. McMakin is the author of The Resonance Effect and the clinical textbook Frequency Specific Microcurrent in Pain Management, and has published research on microcurrent treatment of fibromyalgia associated with cervical trauma, presented at venues including Jefferson Medical School and an OHSU/NIH fibromyalgia conference, and served as a contract physician working with NFL and MLB players.

In 2024, Dr. McMakin opened the FSM Clinic and Training Center in Troutdale, Oregon, where she treats patients four days a week and teaches FSM courses in the conference center adjacent to the clinic. She also offers a Shadow and Mentor Program, giving trained practitioners the opportunity to observe her during patient treatments. Beyond Troutdale, she continues to travel internationally teaching FSM and speaking at industry conferences, and offers private in-home treatments and online consultations.
